To enable this, it is desirable that the sign be provided with a bar code label with suitable information content. However, a barcode label is sensitive to the environmental impact and will eventually be destroyed and impossible to read if exposed to sun, wind, rain or salt for a long time. If the sign is located on an installation in or near a desert area, the barcode label can also be destroyed in a short time if it is exposed to a sandstorm. Thus, there is a need to improve the durability of a bar code label mounted on a sign of the type in question.
OBJECT OF THE INVENTION The object of the present invention is to provide a simple and expedient solution to the above-mentioned problem.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION According to the present invention, said object is achieved by means of a sign having the features defined in claim 1.
The plate according to the invention comprises: - an elongate base profile with a bottom piece, a first folded edge portion arranged along a first side edge of the bottom piece and a second folded edge portion arranged along a second side edge of the bottom piece opposite the first folded edge portion, the bottom piece having a front and a back side, one or more character elements received in the base profile and arranged on the front side of the base, each of these character elements having a first edge portion which engages the first folded edge portion of the base profile and an opposite second edge portion which engages the second folded edge portion of the base profile, - a bar code label arranged on the front of the base piece between said first and second folded edge portions and next to said character element, and - a cover plate which is displaceable received in the base profile and arranged on the front side of the base piece said character element, this cover plate having a first edge portion which engages with the first folded edge portion of the base profile and an opposite second edge portion which engages with the second folded edge portion of the base profile.
The cover plate is slidable relative to the bottom piece forward and eats between a first displacement position, in which the cover plate is located on top of the bar code label and thereby protectively covers it, and a second displacement position, in which the cover plate is located next to the bar code label and thereby leaves it accessible.
When the cover plate is in the first offset position, the cover plate protects the barcode label from the effects of sun, wind, rain, salt and sandstorms. The cover plate also protects the barcode label from being destroyed by graffiti and other vandalism. If necessary, the barcode label can be made accessible for reading in a quick and easy way by a lateral displacement of the cover plate.
Because the cover plate is mounted in the base profile in the same way as the drawing elements, the cover plate can be given a similar design as the drawing elements and the cover plate can thereby be integrated in the sign in a discreet manner without appreciably affecting the overall impression of the sign.
According to an embodiment of the invention, the sign comprises a resilient locking member which is intended to be clamped to the base profile by engaging the first and second folded edge portions of the base profile, thereby retaining the cover plate in said first displacement position. Under the action of this locking means the cover plate is kept in the protective position on top of the bar code label so that an unintentional displacement of the cover plate away from the bar code label is avoided, while the clamping force of the locking means can be easily overcome by hand for exposing the bar code label. dimensioned.
According to another embodiment of the invention, the locking member is attached to the cover plate to be displaceable relative to the base profile together with the cover plate. This avoids the loss of the locking member.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION In Figures 1-8, a sign 1 according to two different embodiments of the present invention is illustrated. The sign 1 comprises an elongate base profile 2 with a bottom piece 3, a first folded edge portion 4a arranged along a first side edge 5a of the bottom piece 3 and a second folded edge portion 4b arranged along a second side edge 5b of the bottom piece opposite the first folded edge portion 4a. The bottom piece 3 has a front side 6 and a back side 7. A number of character elements 8 are received in the base profile 2 and arranged on the front side 6 of the bottom piece. The character elements 8 are provided with desired characters, for example in the form of numbers or letters.
Each character element 8 has a first edge portion 9a (see Fig. 3) which engages the first folded edge portion 4a of the base profile and an opposite second edge portion 9b which engages the second folded edge portion 4b of the base profile, the base profile folded edge portions 4a, 4b overlap said first and second edge portions 9a, 9b of the character elements so that the character elements 8 are thereby held to the base profile 2. The character elements 8 suitably have the shape of rectangular plates.
The character of a character element 8 is advantageously punched out in the character element so that the bottom piece 3 of the base profile is visible through the punching. In this case, the character elements 8 suitably have a different color than the bottom piece 3 so that the characters of the character elements 8 appear by contrasting action between the character elements and the bottom piece. The character of a character element 8 could of course also be designed in another way, for example by printing or painting.
A bar code label 10 (see Figs. 5, 6 and 8) is arranged on the front side 6 of the bottom piece between said first and second folded edge portions 4a, 4b and next to the character elements 8. The bar code label 10 is suitably constituted by a sticker provided with a unique barcode pattern.
A preferably rectangular cover plate 11 is slidably received in the base profile 2 and arranged on the front side 6 of the base piece next to the drawing elements 8. The cover plate 11 is attached to the base profile 2 in the same way as the drawing elements 8 and has a first edge portion 12a (see Fig. 4 ) engaging the first folded edge portion 4a of the base profile and an opposite second edge portion 12b engaging the second folded edge portion 4b of the base profile, the folded edge portions 4a, 4b of the base profile overlapping said first and second edge portions 12a, 12b of the cover plate so that the cover plate 11 is thereby held to the base profile 2.
The cover plate 11 is slidable relative to the bottom piece 3 forward and eats between a first displacement position (see Figs. 1, 2 and 7), in which the cover plate 11 is located on top of the bar code label 10 and thereby protectively covers it, and a second displacement position (see Fig. 5, 6 and 8), in which the cover plate 11 is located at the side of the bar code label 10 and thereby leaves it accessible for reading. In the illustrated embodiments, the cover plate 11 is displaceable relative to the base profile 2 in the longitudinal direction of the base profile, ie along the folded edge portions 4a, 4b of the base profile. As an alternative, the cover plate 11 could be displaceable in the transverse direction of the base profile through a slot arranged in one of the folded edge portions 4a, 4b of the base profile.
The cover plate 11 can be completely glossy or provided with a company logo or other marking. When assembling a sign 1, a cover plate 11 and a desired combination of character elements 8 are pushed into the base profile 2 from one end of the base profile so that the folded edge portions 4a, 4b of the base profile are caused to overlap the first and second edge portions 12a, 12b. of the cover plate and the first and second edge portions 9a, 9b of the character elements. The folded edge portions 4a, 4b are then deformed at their ends at the areas marked with 13 by the edge portions 4a, 4b in these areas being pressed against the bottom piece 3 so that the cover plate 11 and the drawing elements 8 cannot slide past these areas. This keeps the cover plate 11 and the character elements 8 in place in the base profile 2 and prevents them from slipping out of it. In the end portions of the base profile, through holes 14 are arranged so that the sign 1 can be fixed to an object via these holes by means of fastening means in the form of, for example, screws, nails or rivets.
The base profile 2, the drawing elements 8 and the cover plate 11 are suitably made of aluminum or other suitable metal.
In the embodiment illustrated in Figs. 1-6, the cover plate 11 is provided with a handle 15 which is designed to be gripped with one or more fingers or a hand by a user for displacing the cover plate 11 relative to the base profile 2 between the above-mentioned displacement positions.
In the embodiment illustrated in Figs. 7 and 8, the plate 1 comprises a resilient locking member 16 which is intended to be clamped to the base profile 2 by engaging the first and second folded edge portions 4a, 4b of the base profile to thereby hold the cover plate 11 remains in said first displacement position. In the illustrated example, the locking member 16 comprises an elongate base portion 17 extending between the folded edge portions 4a, 4b of the base profile, a first leg 18a formed to engage the first folded edge portion 4a of the base profile and an opposite second leg 18b formed for engagement with the second folded edge portion 4b of the base profile. The legs 18a, 18b are resiliently connected to each other via the base portion 17 and are displaceable in the direction of each other against the action of a spring force. The locking member 16 is in this case slidably receivable in the base profile 2 in order to be displaceable relative to the base profile 2 in the longitudinal direction of the base profile, ie along the folded edge portions 4a, 4b of the base profile. Under the action of said spring force, the respective leg 18a, 18b is pressed against the folded edge portions 4a, 4b of the base profile so that the locking member 16 is held at the base profile 2 in the current position. By manually pushing the legs 18a, 18b in the direction of each other, the reading member 16 can be released from its holding engagement with the base profile 2 so that a displacement of the locking member 16 and the cover plate 11 along the base profile is allowed. In order to facilitate such an operation of the legs 18a, 18b, each leg is provided at its outer end with a gripping part 19a, 19b projecting from the bottom piece 3 of the base profile, which is designed to be able to be gripped with the fingers.
The base portion 17 and legs 18a, 18b of the locking member are preferably formed in one piece of spring wire.
The locking member 16 is advantageously attached to the cover plate 11 to be displaceable relative to the base profile 2 together with the cover plate. In this case, the above-mentioned gripping parts 19a, 19b of the legs 18a, 18b of the locking member 10 can be used as handles in a displacement of the cover plate 11 along the base profile 2.
Instead of using a separate reading means 16 of the type described above, the base profile 2 and the cover plate 11 could be provided with recesses and projections which with snap action engage each other when the cover plate 11 occupies the above-mentioned first displacement position and thereby retains the cover plate in this displacement position. so that accidental exposure of the bar code label 10 is prevented. The base profile 2 and the cover plate 11 could also be provided with recesses and projections which with snap action engage with each other when the cover plate 11 assumes the above-mentioned second displacement position and thereby retains the cover plate in this displacement position in order thus to ensure that the bar code label 10 remains exposed in connection with a reading thereof.
The invention is of course not in any way limited to the embodiments described above, but a number of possibilities for modifications thereof should be obvious to a person skilled in the art, without this deviating from the basic idea of the invention as defined in the appended claims. .
